What beginners get wrong in French
Learning l' without the gender
L' hides the gender: l'oiseau is masculine, l'écharpe feminine. The word tables record the gender for every word that takes l'.
Making every colour agree
Most colours add -e and -s, but marron and orange never change: des chaussures marron. The colours page sets out which do.
Irregular plurals
L'œil becomes les yeux, le cheval les chevaux, le genou les genoux. The topic pages list the plurals pupils meet first.
French numbers, from 1 to a million, with a printable chart and worksheet generator, are on our sister site Numbers in French.
